Coastal Carolina Community College
Coastal Carolina Community College is a community college located in Jacksonville, North Carolina. For five consecutive years, Coastal has met or exceeded all 12 performance standards mandated by the North Carolina Community College System. This is the only college in the system to do so. They have small class sizes and emphasis on one-to-one assistance. Coastal has furthered the quality of its education by developing and progressively refining its own outcome-based accountability system. This system is called the Annual Desktop Audit. This has been cited by the leadership of the North Carolina General Assembly as a “model” for the State’s 58 public community colleges. Coastal is one of the few colleges in the North Carolina Community College System that has met or exceeded the performance standards set by the State Board of Community Colleges.
Marine Corps Partnership
The institution has a long-standing partnership with Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River. It offers classes on military bases off-hours, and also online, to provide education to as wide a spectrum of military personnel and dependents as possible. A number of classes are also offered online. Its Division of Continuing Education teaches skills and concepts such as Survival Arabic, TQL, Six Sigma, and electrical and plumbing to active-duty Marines. For military personnel embarking on a second career, the Small Business Center (SBC) offers entrepreneurship courses for running small businesses. The Division of Continuing Education teaches basic skills, conversational English, and preparation for the GED test. It offers free classes for persons who are unemployed and underemployed, and co-sponsors job fairs.
