South Carolina Cotton Museum – Located in Bishopville South Carolina – Open Year Round
The South Carolina Cotton Museum showcases the humble plant known as cotton, that drove the advancement of agriculture, transportation, textiles and many other technologies. The world changed with the rise of cotton production in the south. Dating back to 1671, Joseph West was the first documented grower of cotton in the south. This would later become the state of South Carolina.

South Carolina Cotton Museum
The South Carolina Cotton Museum exhibits take visitors through cotton’s rich agricultural history with examples of hand tools and baskets used by early cotton growers and pickers. Hand cards, spinning wheels and early looms are also on view at the museum, in addition to modern spinning and weaving equipment. There is also a larger-than-life boll weevil exhibit which depicts a dark time in cotton’s history in the southern United States.

The South Carolina Cotton Museum is a privately-owned Non-Profit and has no affiliations with any state or federal agencies. The museum offers educational programs for all ages and grade levels and school groups are welcome. They also have a company store offering specialty gift items for all ages and occasions. The South Carolina Cotton Museum is also a venue for meetings, parties and receptions, accommodating up to 125. The Lee County Veterans Museum is located right next door to the South Carolina Cotton Museum. The exhibits tell the history of American conflicts using artifacts and military memorabilia provided by Lee County veterans and families.
Veterans Visit Free
Veterans can visit the South Carolina Cotton Museum for free from Memorial Day through Veterans Day, and active military visit free. The Lee County Veterans Museum is home to American Legion Post 29, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3096, and a meeting area for the Auxiliaries. It is also office space for the Lee County Veterans Affairs. The Lee County Veterans Museum is also available for meetings, parties, and receptions. It can accommodate events of up to 250.
